Progressive Action Spot

"Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. Do not be too severe upon their errors, but reclaim them by enlightening them. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress, and Assemblies, Judges, and Governors, shall all become wolves." Thomas Jefferson

Thursday Progressive Org Spotlight

I might make it a weekly feature to spotlight some Progressive Organizations. Or not. Let's just see which way the wind blows.

Today there are two Organizations that deserve a mention.

I believe that the only way that we will be able to take our Congress back from the moneyed interests (calling them "Special" Interests gives them respect they do not deserve) is to have Public Financing of Elections.

Just 6 Dollars dot Org is a movement fighting for this.

There is a concern that limiting the amount of money in campaigns, or limiting where the money comes from, might be unconstitutional. There is an equal concern that the amount of time that Representatives must spend campaigning might also be unconstitutional. Constant campaigning removes their attention from serving their constituents - serving their constituents is their job.

Just6Dollars has several action items to support their movement.

The second Organization that deserves mention is Read the Bill dot org.

The fabulous thing about Read the Bill is that it not only requires that the legislators have 72 hours to read the bill, it also requires that the bill is put online, so that the public has 72 hours to read the legislation.

Read the Bill legislation is H Res 688. You can call your Representative (1-888-355-3588) and ask them to co-sponsor, if they are not already. You can also sign the petition here.

Both of these orgs have email updates that you can sign up for and are accepting donations.

Back from the dentist. I hate that place.

    Where is everyone?

I noticed that people are getting discouraged again. I am sorry. I am not ready to give up on our ability to make a difference. I still believe in the power of the people.

I have to have a little post-dentist rest. I'll check in later.

This is a scary ass article.

I don't even know where to start on the whole bunch of ugly stuff in it and I do not have a positive action to counter-act the impact unless it is we really need to focus on education.

Our children need to be taught to think critically in order to counter-act indoctrination into to scary ass robotic behavior.

We also need to teach real sex ed, especially prevention of unwanted pregnancies.

    Holy crap.

Lurking mostly, no time to comment.
We had this huge electrical storm this morning so I shut down for a while. Scottsdale got flooded in parts.
Then I volunteer at my boy's school in the afternoon.
Things are going so much better (so far) this year for him. Away from all the distractions and disruptions. He likes his new teacher and has had only a few outburst himself. He gets in trouble sometimes because he's laughing at someones fart or burp.

SOS, there is no place for smart kids in today's public schools. It is really unfortunate.

Teachers are so constrained to teach "inside the box" and they cannot address the individualized education for these very gifted children.

    Anjha,

    I really am leaving.

    But first:

Just wanted to let you know that I followed the links and sent the letter supporting H Res 688.

I share this because I want you, and iamcoyote (and the rest) to know that you really are having an impact and inspiring others to action.

    It's been a tough week hasn't it?

    Thank you OTF.

Hey, you all let me leave this up all day yesterday with the wrong day on the header.

    Holy Crap.

    I will correct it.

    Have a new post coming.
