Love is but a Song We Sing
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry.
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why.
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Ev'rybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Some will come and some will go
And we shall surely pass.
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last.
We are but a moment's sunlight
Fading in the grass.
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Ev'rybody get together
Try to love one another right now
If you hear the song we sing
You will understand.
You hold the key to love and fear
In your trembling hand.
Just one key unlocks them both
It's there at your command
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Ev'rybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Right now Right now
Get Together

So, my intent was to rant about the lack of protest music and art right now. I am wondering where the artists are. Where is the music? What can people gather around? What can give the masses a dose of peace, love, resistance? What can make them hear what I am seeing?
The post changed quickly and although I did find some current artists who are protesting in their works...it was not enough.
So, what is your favorite protest song?
Give me an F
Give me a U
Give me a C
Give me a K
What's that spell?!
Yeah, come on all of you, big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Vietnam
So put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.
And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;

Link tv this morning had a re-run of an interview with Pete Seeger. He's 97 now. Did you see it? Wears headphones cause he's deaf as a post, memory cells he's saved up for songs and protest memories but not so much of the short term stuff. What a life he has led.

Damn, I did not see that. I was lost in a world of protest music.

oh, so now it's talking to me. Your husband has great taste, I'm listening to Neil Young's Living with War, long story.

I haven't had problems with blogger (today).
The Freedom of Speech tour is a big deal. CSNY seems to be one of the only groups who are out there attempting to bring into the consciousness of the people the dangers of what our Country is doing.
Besides...I am an enormous fan.
I was able to see David Crosby in a small acoustic show several years back. That was amazing.
I wish I would have been able to see them on the FoS tour.

They've always been at the forefront. Neil Young was great on Stephen Colbert "I hate this stinkin' war" what a great moment/line. I had posted earlier that I was listening to Living with War because "Bow" season started this weekend and my neighbor had forgotten to put signs up and had left for the weekend so I've been inundated with strange men in strange suits with sharp objects driving up my driveway. I have 9 bucks that live around the house and they've been hiding behind the house munching on my garden. Thus the music has worked well.

That was a stupid spam. If I start getting a lot of it I will turn on word verification.
That site is awfully cool Main. It is a lot of work to offer a rundown on all of the local blogs. Very cool. I will have to check it often.
Got a new post coming...

The Youngbloods were formed by Jesse Colin Young (b, Perry Miller, November 11, 1944, New York City)and this was one of the best songs to come out of the war torn sixties. It was first released in 1967 when I was a high school freshman and most of my friends big brothers were coming back home from Vietnam in body bags. It could have been written yesterday!

The strongest antiwar statement for me came out in 1966 when Stephen Stills was in the Buffalo Springfield with Neil Young. CSNY are doing it on tour this summer, 40 years later.
"For What It's Worth"
-Stephen Stills, 1966
There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Joe - so nice of you to post!
Did I send you this video created by my nephew?
I thought I did.
I didn't mention "For What its Worth" because I had already posted so much about this.

Thank you Anjha. The fact that your 16 year old nephew has seen and been affected by this video enough to post it on You Tube makes me think "...we won't get fooled again", to borrow a lyric from Pete Townsend. A lot of people brought their kids to the CSNY show. The most anti-war and anti-administration show I've ever seen!

Joe - He Created it. My nephew made that video.
